Stamp Out Hunger

Millions of Americans live from one day to the next uncertain where their next meal will come from-a sad statistic that helps to reinforce the importance of the annual national Stamp Out Hunger® Food Drive, to be held this year on Saturday, May 11. Letter carriers see many of these folks along their routes each day. This food drive can make a positive difference in the lives of those who have been dealt difficult hands. This year marks the 27th anniversary of the national drive.

Since the nation’s largest single-day food drive began in 1993, letter carriers-ably assisted by untold thousands of family members, friends and other volunteers have collected more than 1.5 billion pounds of non-perishable food left by customers’ mailboxes and delivered to local food banks in more than 10,000 cities and towns in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Guam.

Be part of the nation's largest annual food drive! Leave non-perishable items for your mail carrier to pick up on Saturday, May 11th. All donations will support Kalamazoo Loaves & Fishes, Salvation Army, Portage Community Center, and Christian Neighbors.

Volunteers from First National Bank of Michigan will help sort food after the drive. “This is an important part of the letter carriers food drive and we are happy to assist,” stated Cindy Kole, Senior Vice President, Chief Operating Officer at First National Bank of Michigan. “Our team has participated in this event with Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes for many years, it’s a great way for us as a company to give back.”

Kids' Food Basket

Kids' Food Basket helps nourish children living at or near the poverty level with critical evening meals to level the playing field for their academic achievement by providing Sack Suppers. This is a free, well-balanced evening meal full of nutritious food delivered to children so that they can perform their best. Sack Suppers are distributed within classrooms at the end of each school day and during summer programs too, meaning every child in need can get one easily and safely. Kids’ Food Basket serves children who attend schools where 70% or more of the student population receive free or reduced-cost lunch.

First National Bank of Michigan is proud to support Kids’ Food Basket and the 8000 children at 47 schools in Grand Rapids, Muskegon and Holland that receive a nutritious Sack Supper each and every weekday. We are a sponsor for the 17th annual Feast For Kids happening on May 8, 2019! Chefs and students work side by side to provide a four-course feast with an auction to benefit Kids' Food Basket. We thank the nearly 250 volunteers that prepare, pack and deliver these meals every single day and educate our youth on making smart food choices. Equipping children and families with greater access to fresh, locally grown food can help build a more vibrant, healthier West Michigan, a goal First National Bank of Michigan takes to heart.
